Bartlett Good Samaritan Killed in I-57 Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- State police say a Good Samaritan and the man he was trying to save are both dead, killed in an accident along an Illinois highway last evening.
Police say it began when 58 year-old Jimmy Westbrook of Tennessee lost a tire as he drove along I-57 in Onarga Township. He ran across traffic to get it back but was hit by a 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo driven by 61 year-old Edward Fahrforth of Summit.
Another driver passing by, 80 year-old Jack Douglas of Bartett, saw what happened and pulled over to help.
He dragged Westbrook out of the road and on to the shoulder and then went to get a cell phone from his car to call for help, but as he crossed the road he was hit by another car.
Both he and Westbrook died of their injuries.
State Police say so far no one is ticketed or charged.
