Bank Robber Arrested In Line With Note Still In Her Hand
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman who allegedly robbed a South Side Washington Heights neighborhood bank last month apparently returned to try again Friday morning, but was thwarted by sharp-eyed bank employees.
About 9:50 a.m., employees of the TCF Bank branch in the Jewel store in the 9400 block of South Ashland Avenue recognized a woman in line who matched the description of a woman who robbed the bank on Dec. 6, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.
They hit the bank's silent holdup alarm, which alerted Chicago Police. Responding Morgan Park District officers saw the woman in line and noticed she was holding a note in her hand, which turned out to be a note demanding cash, Perez said.
In the earlier robbery, she had passed a similar note to a teller before getting away with an undetermined amount of cash, Perez said.
The 55-year-old woman was arrested without incident, he said. The FBI is investigating.
