Bank Robbed By Man Wearing Motorcycle Helmet
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man wearing a motorcycle helmet and armed with a gun robbed a bank near Midway Airport on the Southwest Side on Wednesday morning.
The robbery occurred about 10 a.m. at a Citibank branch at 5674 S. Archer Ave., according to FBI spokeswoman Cynthia Yates.
A white man 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9 wearing a motorcycle helmet and white gym shoes entered the bank armed with a black handgun and demanded money, she said.
"He was waving the gun around,'' but no one was hurt, and he fled on foot after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Yates.
The incident is classified as a "takeover" style robbery, the "most aggressive form of bank robbery,'' Yates said.
"It's when a robber or robbers come in and literally take over the bank. They instruct all the employees and the customers to do whatever they demand and they threaten them with harm,'' said Yates.
No arrests had been made as of early Friday afternoon.
