Baby Taken In Gas Station Carjacking Found Unhurt
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are searching for a man who stole a car -- with a baby girl inside -- from a Humboldt Park gas station Wednesday night.
Baby Safe After Carjacking
The 1-year-old was later found unhurt.
The carjacking happened after the girl's mother left her inside a running 1999 Pontiac Grand Am in a gas station parking lot in the 3100 block of West Chicago Avenue about 9:25 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The man then jumped inside, taking the car with the baby still inside, Greer said.
Police found the car a short time later, abandoned about half a mile away in the 600 block of North Kedzie Avenue, police said.
The baby was still inside but was not injured, Greer said. Paramedics took the girl to Norwegian-American Hospital in good condition as a precaution.
The girl's mother knows the suspect from the neighborhood, but no one is in custody Wednesday night as area detectives continue to investigate.
