Baby Gorilla Born At Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo
CHICAGO (AP) -- Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago has a second baby gorilla birth in the last two months.
The zoo announced the birth of the western lowland gorilla on Monday. Zoo officials say the baby girl appears to be in good health and is doing well. Her mother is 16-year-old Rollie. The father is 23-year-old silverback gorilla Kwan. The baby gorilla is the second this fall for the zoo. Baby girl gorilla Patty was born to mother Bana in October.
Zoo primate curator Maureen Leahy says having more than one baby will be beneficial for social development.
The zoo last had two baby gorillas at the same time in 2004. This baby is the 52nd born in the zoo's great apes program.
