Baby Girl Ejected From SUV In River North Collision
CHICAGO (STMW) -- An 11-month-old girl was in "stable" condition at a hospital after she was thrown from an SUV during a crash in the downtown area early Tuesday morning, police said.
The infant, who was not restrained in a car seat, was ejected from the 1999 GMC Jimmy about 2:10 a.m., after a semi truck blew a red light in the 600 block of North Dearborn Street and collided with the eastbound SUV, police said.
The girl was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital where she is in stable condition, police said. No one else was hurt in the crash.
Both drivers were issued citations.
The driver of the SUV, 31-year-old Cresencio Acuna, was cited for failing to properly restrain the child and for no valid driver's license. Police would not describe the relationship between the girl and Acuna, who lives in the 2000 block of West 18th Place.
Truck driver David Lechner, 31, from downstate Villa Grove, was cited for failing to stop at a red light, police said.
