Authorities Investigating Death Of West Side Infant Girl
CHICAGO (STMW) - An autopsy was inconclusive on a 1-month-old girl who died early Friday, prompting a state investigation.
Jia Horton, 28 days old, of the 4000 block of West Division St., was found unresponsive in her home and was pronounced dead at 7:41 a.m. Friday at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Police said officers responded to the home at 7:33 a.m. Friday and found the baby unresponsive.
A Saturday autopsy was inconclusive, pending toxicology results.
Illinois Department of Children and Family Services spokesman Jimmie Whitelow said the agency is investigating an allegation of neglect in the case.
DCFS has had prior contact with Jia's family, which includes an unfounded investigation from March. There are two other children in the home, and both have been put in the care of relatives, Whitelow said.
Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
