(CBS) -- Residents in Aurora can now show their support for law enforcement through a new initiative called "Project Blue Light."
It comes as police departments around the nation are on alert after officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge were targeted and killed.
WBBM's Mariam Sobh reports.
Under the initiative, suggested by a resident, home owners are asked to replace their porch lightbulbs with blue colored lights.
"In talking with the chief, I thought it was a great idea," Mayor Tom Weisner tells WBBM. "It allows people to show concern and support for our Aurora police officers."
The effort also ties in with the upcoming "National Night Out," when residents get to know their neighbors and police officers better in an effort to fight crime.
Many retailers sell blue-colored light bulbs, Aurora city officials said.
