'At Least A Dozen' Displaced, 3 Hurt In NW Side Blaze
CHICAGO (STMW) - Two people were rescued and suffered smoke inhalation when a fire erupted in a residential building on the Northwest Side that also left a fire lieutenant hospitalized Sunday morning.
A still-and-box-alarm was called at 9 a.m. for the fire at a 2-1/2 story residential building at 4720 W. Montana St., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva.
Flames raced through the back of the first and second floor, he said.
Firefighters from Engine Co. No. 68 and Squad 2 went inside the burning building and rescued two adults who both suffered smoke inhalation. They were taken in serious condition to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center and Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, Roccasalva said.
A fire lieutenant who was working the fire was also hurt but he suffered only minor injuries. He was in fair condition at an undisclosed hospital, according to Roccasalva.
The alarm was canceled at 9:12 a.m., according to Roccasalva, who did not know what started the fire but said it was under investigation.
"At least a dozen'' residents are expected to be displaced from the building, which sustained damage mostly to its back, Roccasalva said.
