At Least 7 Shot, Wounded In City In Overnight Violence
CHICAGO (CBS) -- It was a violent night across Chicago overnight, with at least seven people shot and wounded from the South Chicago to River North.
The earliest incident after sundown Thursday happened at 10:18 p.m., when a 46-year-old woman was shot in the 200 block of East 51st Street near Washington Park. A man walked up to a group of people, and fired several shots, police said.
The woman was wounded in the buttocks and grazed in the head. She was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where she was reported in stable condition, police said.
Just over half an hour later, a 31-year-old man was shot and wounded in the South Shore neighborhood. The man was walking on the sidewalk in the 7800 block of South Cregier Avenue when shots rang out from a passing white van around 10:54 p.m., police said.
The victim was wounded in the ankle and the side of the mouth, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
At 12:49 a.m. Friday, a 15-year-old boy was shot on his own front porch in the South Chicago neighborhood. Police say the boy was shot in the thigh in the 8800 block of South Exchange Avenue.
The boy told police he heard shots as he sat on the second-floor porch, and felt pain. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was also reported in stable condition.
At 1:26 a.m. Friday, a man was shot in the leg in the Park Manor neighborhood. A gunman walked up to the 20-year-old man as he stood on the street in the 700 block of East 75th Street, fired several shots, and fled in a white car, police said.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was reported in stable condition Stroger Hospital, police said.
The Southwest Side's Gage Park neighborhood was rocked by violence around 2:20 a.m. Friday, when a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 5900 block of South Talman Avenue. The victim was walking down the street with another man, when several male suspects emerged from an alley and opened fire, police said.
The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said.
The violence was not limited to outlying areas of the city. Around 2:50 a.m., a man was shot and wounded in the bustling tourist-friendly River North neighborhood, near Clark and Huron streets.
The man, whose age was not known, was shot in the leg and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said. His condition was not known.
The trendy Hotel Felix, and two high-rise condo buildings, are located at the intersection.
Finally, around 2:55 a.m., a man was shot in the back as he ran from a gunman on the city's West Side. The 31-year-old man ran when he heard shots in the 2900 block of West Harrison Street just south of the Eisenhower Expressway, but was hit in the center of the back, police said.
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in stable, but guarded, condition, police said.
No one was in custody in any of the shootings as of Friday morning.
