At Least 8 Injured In Gun Violence Since Friday Night
CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least eight people have been wounded in shootings on the city's South and West sides between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
The violence began at 7:40 p.m. in the 9000 block of South Colfax Avenue when a 19-year-old man was walking, heard shots and felt pain, police said. The man was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to the leg.
A 24-year-old woman was wounded during a drive-by shooting at 9 p.m. in the Southwest Side Brighton Park neighborhood.
She was standing on the sidewalk with several males in the 3100 block of West 39th Place when a dark colored vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The woman was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the right ankle.
About 9:30 p.m., a man walking in the 3200 block of West Walnut Street was shot twice in the leg, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said. The 32-year-old victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, Perez said. The victim has a criminal record and gang affiliation, according to police.
A 19-year-old man was shot in the head about 11 p.m. on the Near West Side.
A witness saw the man drive a vehicle into a parking lot in the 2600 block of West Jackson Boulevard and began unloading items from the back, Perez said. A dark vehicle, possibly an SUV, entered the parking lot and circled the first vehicle before pulling up behind it and someone inside fired multiple shots in the man's direction. The victim was struck in the head by gunfire and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.
Another 19-year-old man was shot while walking in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side late Friday.
The shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Grenshaw Street, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said.
He was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital with a graze wound to the lower back.
About 1:25 a.m., a man believed to be about 20 years old was involved in a fight in the street in the 4700 block of West Ohio Street, Perez said.
The man knew the person he was fighting with, but did not know the person who shot him in the leg during the fight, Perez said. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the knee and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stable, according to police.
A man was wounded early Saturday in a drive-by shooting in the Lawndale neighborhood.
The man was shot about 4:54 a.m. in the 2300 block of South Homan Avenue, Perez said. The 22-year-old man was standing with his girlfriend on the corner of Homan Avenue and 24th Street when a black SUV drove by and opened fire, Perez said. The man was struck in the leg but his girlfriend was not injured. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, Perez said.
Just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, a 20-year-old man was seriously wounded when he was shot multiple times in the South Shore neighborhood. The shooting occurred in the 2600 block of East 79th Street, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien. The man was shot multiple times and taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, O'Brien said.
