At Least 13 Injured In Shootings In Chicago Thursday
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Throngs of people around Chicago were out in light jackets enjoying the unseasonably warm weather Thursday, but the pleasant conditions also brought a rash of gun violence that left at least 13 people injured.
Most of those injured were shot in one hour-long period in the early afternoon.
No one was reported killed in any of the shootings.
Between just before 2 and just before 3 p.m. Thursday, three adults and a teen boy were wounded in an attack in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. At least two shooters walked up to them about 2:50 p.m. in the 200 block of North Kenneth Avenue and opened fire, police said.
A 24-year-old man shot in the chest was the most severely wounded among them, and was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park in serious condition, police said. A 14-year-old boy was shot twice in the leg and was taken to Stroger of Cook County where his condition has stabilized as of early Friday.
An 18-year-old man was also shot in the right leg and in good condition, while a 22-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the foot, police said.
Five minutes later, two 25-year-old men were wounded in a drive-by shooting, also on the West Side, in the 3500 block of West Chicago Avenue, police said. One of the men was shot multiple times and taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. Police are seeking a white, older-model Chevrolet in connection with the shooting.
Less than an hour before that, a 33-year-old woman walking at 1:59 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Seeley Avenue, in the West Englewood neighborhood, heard gunfire and discovered that she had been shot in the leg, police said. She was taken to Stroger Hospital and was listed in good condition early Friday.
Other gun-related attacks Thursday included a shooting in the 5500 block of South King Drive about 1:13 p.m. that left a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the back, police said. He is listed in good condition at Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Centers.
At 3:20 p.m., a man in the 1700 block of West 51st Street was shot and taken to Holy Cross Hospital for treatment, Fire Media Affairs said.
On the Northwest Side, a 21-year-old man was shot in the chest and critically wounded about 3:20 p.m. when someone in a dark-colored sedan drove by and opened fire in the 3600 block of West Lawrence Avenue in the Albany Park neighborhood, police said. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
At 10:30 p.m., a 31-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 500 block of North Monticello Avenue, police said. He was treated on scene and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he signed a medical refusal and left on his own accord, police said.
The shooting stemmed from a domestic situation and police are looking for the alleged shooter – the 48-year-old brother of the victim's boyfriend.
At 11:45 p.m., two men were shot in a drive-by shooting at 50 W. 85th St., police said. A 33-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the head and a gunshot wound to the foot while another man was shot in the forearm. Both are listed in good condition for Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
No one was in custody for any of the shootings early Friday.
