Armed With Hammer, Man Robs Park Ridge Bank
PARK RIDGE (CBS) -- Police say that a man armed with a hammer who robbed a bank Monday in northwest suburban Park Ridge visited three other bank branches in the northwest suburb before the robbery.
The man entered the TCF Bank branch at 1 West Devon Ave. about 9:18 a.m., approached the teller and asked for all of the money, according to Park Ridge police.
He was armed with a large wooden-handled hammer as he made his demands, police said. He left the scene in a newer-model black Ford Mustang southbound on Canfield from Devon.
He got away with an unknown amount of cash, the FBI said. Police say the suspect visited three other Park Ridge bank branches prior to the robbery.
The robber is described as a 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-2 white man with a medium build, the FBI said.
He was wearing a white hat, white shirt, white jeans, black sunglasses and carrying a backpack.
Police noted that he "seemed nervous" during the robbery.
No one was injured in the robbery, according to the FBI.
A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information should call the FBI at (312) 421-6700.
There have been at least 76 bank robberies in the Chicago area this year, according to the FBI.
Last year's total was 218.
