Armed Robbers Duct-Tape Hammond, Ind. Family During Home Invasion
HAMMOND, Ind. (CBS) – Armed intruders broke into a Hammond, Ind. residence Thursday night and duct-taped two parents and their daughters before robbing the home.
Police say the bandits knocked on the family's door shortly before 10 p.m. in the 7800 block of Catalpa Avenue. When a 10-year old girl answered, they forced their way into the house, bound the family with duct tape and robbed them.
"I got scared because he pulled the gun out on my dad," the girl tells CBS 2's Brad Edwards.
The mother says robbers threatened their lives unless they came up with money. Another daughter, 15, said she pleaded with the men not to harm anyone.
The robbers took jewelry, cash, cell phones and an MP3 player. The men agreed not to take the father's cell phone, which he uses for work.
During the robbery, the men implied they had ended up at the wrong address.
"They kept saying they hit the wrong house," the 15-year-old said. She managed to get free after the robbers left.
A red, four-door Chevrolet Blazer or Trailblazer, described as newer and shiny, was seen to have pulled up into the driveway and may be involved in the incident, Hammond police said.
