Armed Robberies Plague State Street On South Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are sounding the alarm about a sharp rise in robberies along State Street on the city's South Side.
The robberies have been happening near State Street and Garfield Boulevard, on the cusp of the Englewood, Fuller Park and Washington Park neighborhoods and the former site of the Robert Taylor Homes.
At least four people have been robbed in the past month. Two to three men between the ages of 18 and 24 are targeting the victims as they walk around the neighborhood.
The most recent incident happened in the 5500 block of South State Street.
Two other robberies have occurred on the same block—one on April 4 at about 2 p.m. and another on April 18 at about 3:30 p.m.
Another mugging occurred in down the street in the 0-99 block of West Garfield Boulevard on April 10 at 7:10 p.m.
The robbers remain on the loose, and residents are advised to take extra precautions.
