Armed Man Robs Schaumburg Bank
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (STMW) - A masked man armed with a semi-automatic handgun robbed a northwest suburban bank branch Monday evening.
About 5:50 p.m., the suspect entered the Parkway Bank branch at 1600 N. Roselle Rd. in Schumburg, according to Schaumburg police Sgt. Jon Nebl.
He displayed a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded cash, Nebl said. After getting an unknown amount, he fled on foot. No one was injured in the robbery, Nebl said.
The FBI was notified and is investigating with Schaumburg police.
The suspect is described as a white male, between 20 and 30, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet with a thin build. He was wearing a leather jacket with a hood, a dark baseball cap and white tennis shoes, and had his face mostly covered with a dark blue bandanna with white spots, FBI spokesman Ross Rice said.
He was carrying a small black shoulder bag.
There have been at least 160 bank robberies in the Chicago area this year, according to the FBI. There were 190 in the metropolitan area in 2009.
