Arkush: Players Think Goodell Is A 'Joke'
(WSCR) Roger Goodell heard a healthy amount of boos when he took to the podium during April's NFL Draft. So it's pretty clear what the fans think of the commissioner.
But what do the players and owner think of the man watching over the league during the lockout?
"Well the players think he's a joke," Hub Arkush, of Pro Football Weekly and 670 The Score, said on the Danny Mac Show. "I mean, I can tell you that as a fact. They think he's a shill for the owners, and that unfortunately appears to be the truth, based on the way he's acted in the last four or five months. You know, he continues to use this phrase 'our great game' and talk about the fans and the players, when he clearly is negotiating on behalf of nobody but the owners."

The debate over where Goodell's loyalty should be is an awful big one. On the one hand, you can make the argument that he should be focused on preserving the integrity of the game. But on the other hand, it's the owner who pay his $10 million salary.
"I'm told [that] behind the scenes in the last two or three weeks he has been as responsible as anybody for this movement that has started to be created," Arkush said. "So I don't want to judge Goodell's performance until we have a new deal and we see what it is, but I can you that the players don't trust him. ... And what the other owners think of him? It's going to depend on what the deal looks like."
