Arkush: McClellin Looks Over-Matched At Defensive End
(WSCR) When the Bears drafted defensive end Shea McClellin out of Boise State, questions immediately centered around the first-round draft pick's size.
McClellin, 6-foot-3, 255 pounds, has struggled in the early parts of the Bears training camp, and one NFL expert said he doesn't think McClellin projects well as a defensive end.
"I haven't seen much, yet," Pro Football Weekly's Hub Arkush told The Mully and Hanley Show. "It's still early, guys - I don't want to be judging a kid on one pads (practice) and shorts and a t-shirt. I'm not saying I saw bad Shea, I just haven't seen good Shea. He looks out of position at that spot. I think the real issue is pretty simple: he's 255 pounds and has not yet shown the unique quickness in first step and athletic ability that you have to have to play that position at 255 pounds. When an NFL tackle gets their hands on him, he's done. I'm talking about, so far, Gabe Carimi and James Brown are the guys he's gone up against in Bears camp, and you have to remember this is not the best offensive line in football.
