Arizona Sen. John McCain Endorses Suburban Mayoral Candidate
Arizona Senator John McCain is endorsing Ron Drake for mayor. Drake and McCain worked together when Drake spent six years as mayor of Avondale, Arizona.
Drake told Newsradio: "I'm trying to demonstrate to the people of Arlington Heights with my background and what we've been saying for the last six months of the campaign is that I'm qualified and I think an endorsement from Senator McCain highlights that."
Drake is running against Thomas Hayes and Mark Hellner, both of whom also spoke to Newsradio this afternoon.
Hayes says, "What's important is what's happening here in Arlington Heights, and not what has happened or is currently happening in the state of Arizona. This is an important election in Arlington Heights, Illinois."
"Mr. McCain, obviously, represents Arizona and I don't think people in Arlington Heights are going to pay much attention to an Arizona Senator telling them how to vote," said Hellner.
Election Day is April 9th.
