Arctic Cold Returns After Brief Weekend Warmup
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago area residents will continue riding a seesaw of temperatures over the next few days, with painfully cold conditions Monday, a brief return of milder conditions on Tuesday, and then another bitter blast later in the week.
After briefly seeing temperatures in the low 30s on Saturday, Sunday's temperatures were no better than the high teens, before plunging overnight, and dipping as low as 4 below zero shortly before 6 a.m.
A wind chill advisory was in effect until 9 a.m., due to wind chills of 15 to 25 below early Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
The temperature was not expected to reach much past 10 degrees Monday afternoon, but Tuesday was expected to bring another brief break from the Arctic conditions, with a high of 27.
However, the Chicago area will get nowhere close to normal temperatures this week. The average temperature for late February in Chicago is 38 to 40 degrees, but the rest of the week will have highs only in the teens, with temperatures possibly dropping below zero again early Thursday.
Next weekend should be milder, with a high of 24 on Saturday, and 32 on Sunday.
