Archdiocese Removes Pilsen Pastor For Relationship With Woman
(CBS) -- The pastor of St. Pius V Church in Pilsen has been removed by the Archdiocese of Chicago after details emerged of a relationship he had with an adult single woman, according to a statement from the Dominican Friars.
The relationship between Fr. Brendan Curran and the woman ended several years ago, the statement said. Upon learning about the past relationship, the Dominican Friars and the Archdiocese of Chicago conducted a review. After the review was completed, Archbishop Cupich removed Fr. Curran from his position last Thursday.
The Dominican Friars say Fr. Curran acknowledged his actions were inappropriate and that he will live in another Dominican community to, "begin a program of spiritual healing and reconciliation."
Fr. Curran issued an apology in a statement Dominican Friars' website.
"I deeply regret not self-identifying sooner about my immoral behavior: that was a mistake," Fr. Brendan said. "I failed to remember my ministry and my commitment as a priest, and for that I cannot apologize enough. I am heartbroken to know that my actions have caused pain to so many people. From the bottom of my heart, I apologize and ask for forgiveness. I plan on trying to make amends by seeking spiritual healing and rededicating myself to God's service."
