2 New Auxiliary Bishops Named For Chicago Archdiocese
UPDATED 06/13/11 11:27 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Pope Benedict XVI has appointed two new auxiliary bishops for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Francis Cardinal George announced Monday morning that the Rev. Andrew Wypych, pastor of St. Francis Borgia Church at 3535 N. Panama Ave., and the Rev. Alberto Rojas, pastor of Good Shepherd Church at 2719 S. Kolin Ave., have been named auxiliary bishops.
"Being a priest for 14 years in Chicago has been a blessing, especially speaking on the side of an immigrant coming from outside, and learning the language, and studying here," Rojas said.
The pope names auxiliary bishops in large dioceses that require more than one bishop to administer church duties.
Chicago had been below its complement of auxiliary bishops because of promotions.
