Antique Car Damaged In Elgin Vandalism Spree
ELGIN (STMW) -- Someone broke into a commercial building in northwest suburban Elgin and committed thousands of dollars worth of vandalism and thievery, police reported.
The owner told police he rents the building in the 700 block of North State Street to store equipment for a lawn care business and to hold band practices.
The owner said sometime between Monday and Wednesday, someone broke the windows on his 1931 Dodge sedan, slashed a tire, and poured engine oil on the car.
A motorcycle had fire-extinguisher powder blown up its tailpipe, police were told.
The intruder or intruders also damaged two musical drums, one valued at $1,000, and damaged a riding mower, a desk, a sofa, a public-address system and speakers, police reported.
What appeared to be a gang symbol was painted on one wall, the owner said; and items were taken including a box of speakers, a Saber Light tool and a motorcycle helmet.
