Antioch Police Make Arrest In Serial Vehicle Burglaries
ANTIOCH, Ill. (STMW) -- A 22-year-old Antioch man was arrested for allegedly burglarizing vehicles in the Oakwood Knolls subdivision in Antioch last weekend.
Police said that they received a call around 1:34 a.m., Dec. 22, from a citizen who said there was a suspicious subject in the neighborhood and when police arrived on the scene, they located a suspect matching the description who was carrying a backpack.
Michael Stefani, 22, of 460 Maplewood, Antioch, was charged with six counts of burglary to motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony, which is punishable by 3-10 years in a state penitentiary and/or a fine of up to $25,000 upon conviction.
His bond was set at $100,000 and he is scheduled to appear in Lake County Circuit Court on Jan. 3.
Police said that when they checked his backpack they found several identification and electronic items that did not belong to him. A canvass of the neighborhood turned up more victims and police were able to match his shoe print to impressions left in the snow at the various burglaries.
During the canvass, several other items were found on the ground outside the burglarized vehicles that were also recovered as evidence.
All the items were positively identified and returned to their rightful owners, police said.
