Another Suburb Ditches Red Light Cameras
GENEVA, Ill. (CBS) -- Another Chicago suburb has turned off its red light cameras, reports WBBM's Regine Schlesinger.
Another Suburb Ditches Red Light Cameras
The city of Geneva is the latest to end its program to catch red-light runners with cameras. Its two cameras, on Randall Road at Fargo Boulevard and Williamsburg Avenue, are being removed after the 3-year period for the program ended this past weekend.
Police commander Julie Nash thinks they served their purpose to improve safety. In each of the three years, she says, the number of tickets issued dropped. So did the number of accidents.
If it were up to her, Commander Nash says the cameras would still be there. She admits she's worried that with drivers knowing the cameras are gone, they might go back to old bad habits.
