Amtrak Adds Quiet Car To Wolverine Line
CHICAGO (CBS) -- More Amtrak passengers can now get away from the noise of their fellow riders.
WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports Amtrak's Wolverine line, running from Chicago to Pontiac, Mich., has added a quiet car to its weekday trains.
Passengers on designated quiet cars must silence their cell phones, and other loud devices, and limit their conversation to quiet voices.
"You have a way to escape all the buzzing, and bleeping, and beeping, and ringing, and chit-chatting," Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said.
Quiet car service has been available for several years on the Hiawatha line to Milwaukee.
If a passenger on a quiet car violates the rules, he or she usually is hushed by other passengers, according to Magliari, "but if need be, the conductor will, in fact, take action."
"If your phone rings, for example, if you're in the quiet car, you're asked to leave the car as you answer it," he added.
Magliari said Amtrak is considering adding quiet car service to other lines, and to weekend trains on lines that already have quiet cars on weekdays.
