Amid Misconduct Probe, 2 NIU Administrators Leave With Big Severances
DEKALB, Ill. (CBS) -- Questions are being raised about what's going on at Northern Illinois University - with one investigation in progress, and now the departure of two accused administrators who are getting tens of thousands of dollars in severance.
Two administrators at NIU left the school at the end of July under a cloud of misconduct allegations.
NIU says one of them got $45,000 in severance pay when he left; the other received more than $36,000 in severance.
It's not clear whether the misconduct allegations are related to an investigation that's been going on at NIU for a couple of weeks - into a "coffee fund," where someone at NIU allegedly sold university property as scrap metal to a DeKalb company, and then deposited the checks.
University Spokesman Paul Palian said, "Things are being investigated and believe me, the university is interested in knowing the findings of the investigation."
That means the door is still open for possible criminal prosecution.
