American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing At O'Hare
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An engine problem forced pilots on an American Airlines jet to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff at O'Hare.
The Chicago Department of Aviation said the plane landed safely and nobody was injured. The flight took off from O'Hare International Airport on Wednesday and reported an engine problem shortly afterward.
A passenger on the flight, which was bound for New York City's LaGuardia posted on his Facebook page about the incident.
"Wow that scared the s--t out of me," Brian Novell posted. "I just took off in Chicago and landed 10 min later after the LEFT ENGINE FAILED. American Airlines you owe me big time."
American Airlines spokesman Mary Frances Fagan said Flight 374 took off at 12:09 p.m. and was forced to return to the airport about 15 minutes later, due to "an issue with its left engine." The plane landed normally but emergency equipment was called out as a precaution.
The plane taxied to the gate and the 77 passengers on board were booked on other flights.
