American Airlines Cancels More Flights To Fix Seat Problem
CHICAGO (CBS) -- American Airlines is still canceling dozens of flights, as it scrambles to repair seats in its Boeing 757 jets.
The airline says the seats can pop loose during flight.
A total of 44 flights are canceled Friday and 50 were canceled yesterday.
The problem first surfaced last weekend--when a row of seats in the cabin of a plane popped loose during flight.
Then it happened again two more times. None of the flights was connected to Chicago, but American does have a huge presence at O'Hare International Airport.
American originally said the problem was due to a clamp.
But now it says it's a combination of wear and poor design.
A total of 48 jets are grounded. But the airline says they should be up and running by Saturday.
