Ambulance Driver Charged For Striking Teen Near High School
ELGIN, Ill. (STMW) - A driver for a private ambulance service was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after striking a teen pedestrian in a crosswalk near a northwest suburban high school Wednesday.
Police charged the ambulance driver, 22-year-old Adam L. Mackey, after they found him also at the hospital.
He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk after witnesses said his ambulance struck a 16-year-old who was crossing McLean Boulevard near Larkin High School at 2:56 p.m. Wednesday, according to a police report.
Police said the ambulance's mirror struck the face of William D. Lanham, 16. Lanham was treated at nearby Provena Saint Joseph Hospital.
