Allegedly Drunken Teens Both Crash Cars In McHenry County
WOODSTOCK, Ill. (CBS) -- Two friends, two vehicles, and alleged alcohol use became a regrettable combination this week in McHenry County.
As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, McHenry County Sheriff's police say Thomas Hogan, 18, of Crystal Lake, has been charged with violating the state's zero tolerance law for alcohol consumption by people under 21.
His 19-year-old friend, Damian Dzitkowski, 19, also of Crystal Lake, was charged with driving drunk, the Northwest Herald reported.
Around 2 a.m. Monday, police say, Hogan and Dzitkowski were both driving west down Lucas Road in unincorporated Woodstock, and Hogan lost control of his Jeep during a turn, crossed the wrong side of the road, and went flying off the roadway, the Northwest Herald reports.
Dzitkowski was traveling right behind Hogan, and followed him across the wrong side of the road, hitting a utility pole and some trees, the newspaper reports.
Hogan was flown by a medical rescue helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, while Dzitkowski was taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock where he was treated and released, the newspaper reported.
