Allan Kustok Pleads Not Guilty In Wife's Murder
UPDATED: November 18, 2010 2:10 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An Orland Park man accused of killing his wife pleaded not guilty to murder charges today in court.
Allan Kustok's wife, Anita, was found shot to death in the couple's home in September.
Their children are former Northwestern University quarterback Zak Kustok and Comcast sports reporter Sarah Kustok.
Both Kustok children have been visiting their father weekly in jail in Kankakee. Allan Kustok is being held on $2 million bond, and friends and family are trying to raise the $200,000 bail needed to free him, according to Kustok's attorney Rick Beuke.
"He spends a majority of his time [in jail] worrying about his children,'' Beuke said.
The Kustok children's attorney said Zak and Sarah continue to believe in their father.
"They are in contact with their father on an almost daily basis,'' said Pete Rush. "They intend to stand by their father. ... They believe in him and they love him."
Upon being questioned after the murder, Allan Kustok told police he awoke that morning to a "loud noise" and found his wife of 34 years "dead and lying on her back" with a "handgun in her right hand."
Investigators say Allan did not call 911 for the next hour and a half and then drove her to Palos Community Hospital where she was declared dead from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Once at the hospital, no injuries were found on Allan Kustok, and hospital authorities notified police.
