Alexei Ramirez Wins First Silver Slugger Award
CHICAGO (WSCR) -- Chicago White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez won his first career Louisville Silver Slugger Award on Thursday.
Ramirez, 29, led all American League shortstops with a .282 batting average, 18 home runs and a .431 slugging percentage. He was second in the league with 70 RBI and third with 165 hits, 83 runs and 29 doubles.
He was one of seven first-time Silver Slugger winners on Thursday.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Carl Crawford and Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista were the other first-timers among AL winners. Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez, Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla and Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo were the first-timers among NL winners.
The award is voted on by the league's managers and coaches, who weren't allowed to vote for their own players. White Sox right fielder Carlos Quentin was the last Sox player to win a Silver Slugger award, in 2008.
