Alex Brown: Start McCown For The Rest Of The Season
(WSCR) It's no secret Josh McCown is playing well.
The 34-year-old journeyman backup quarterback has thrown for 754 yards, five touchdowns, no interceptions and a 100.0 passer rating this season in relief of Jay Cutler.
He's 2-0 as a starter.
McCown's play has one former Bears defensive lineman thinking maybe the veteran quarterback should replace Jay Cutler for the rest of the season.
"I want him to start the rest of the season," Alex Brown told The Mully and Hanley Show. "He doesn't turn the ball over. He doesn't take chances, and he wins.

"That's nothing personal against Jay. I think we all agree that Jay is the most talented quarterback on the football team. I don't think that's a question. (McCown) just wins. The kid wins. I think he's earned the right to go into the next game. If keeps winning, why would you take him out? I care about winning, not about feelings and all that stuff. It's about winning. That's it. Nothing else. I'm pretty sure at the end of the day, if you can get into the playoffs and get an opportunity, it doesn't matter who is the quarterback."
So does Brown think the rest of the Bears want McCown to continue playing even when Cutler is healthy?
"I haven't been in the locker room, but if i had to guess, I'd say no. Jay is Jay. He's a super talented quarterback. He's going to take chances, but does he give you the best chance to win? I don't know. I think a lot guys think so. I think that with this particular offense and with what (head coach Marc) Trestman is doing, if the quarterback takes care of the football, you're going to be in the ball game. Just don't turn the football over. If we're looking at that, I'd go with McCown. I'd give him another shot until he shows me that he's not doing it."
