Alderman's Community Alert On Facebook Helps Cops Nab Rapist
(STMW) -- A community alert posted on an alderman's Facebook page helped police capture a Forest Park man who allegedly sexually assaulted one woman on the Northwest Side and beat another.
Antonio Lamont Nettles, 41, of the 7500 block of Harvard Street in Forest Park, was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, one count of aggravated robbery, one count of kidnapping by force or threat and one count of attempted kidnapping, police said.
Nettles is accused of accused of sexually assaulting one woman and beating another in two Northwest Side attacks on April 13.
He first allegedly ran up to a female walking near North Oak Park and West Belmont avenues and forced her to accompany him to a vehicle about 9:45 a.m. April 13, according to a community alert from Area North detectives.
Nettles said he had a knife and a gun, although he never displayed a weapon, and then allegedly sexually assaulted the woman, police said.
About 45 minutes later, Nettles allegedly tried to force another woman into a vehicle, police said. He did not sexually assault the second woman, but did rob her and hit and kick her in the face.
Area North detectives issued a community alert that included a sketch of the suspect. After the alert was posted on the Facebook page of Ald. Mary O'Connor (41st) detectives received information that led to Nettles, police said.
Nettles turned himself in to police.
