Alderman: Roseland Sexual Assault Of 12-Year-Old Girl Did Not Occur
CHICAGO (CBS) – A Chicago alderman says reports that a 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the Roseland neighborhood Thursday are unfounded.
Ald. Anthony Beale of the 9th Ward said police told him they no longer believe the attack occurred, after investigating. The young female victim told police she had been sexually assaulted by a masked suspect Thursday afternoon in a gangway in the 10700 block of South Calumet Avenue.
"This situation is really unfortunate," Beale told CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez Friday afternoon.
Community activist Andrew Holmes had been canvassing the neighborhood with flyers, and residents were on edge.
