Alderman Proposes Opening Up Little-Used Access Road To Taxis For A Charge
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A plan to charge for a taxi along Chicago's stealth highway is picking up some City Council support, reports WBBM's John Cody.

Ald. Robert Fioretti (2nd) proposes opening up the limited access road from downtown south along Metra Electric to McCormick Place and charging cabs a buck a trip.
"It would be a great opportunity for the minimal surcharge that we would have that taxis would assess, it would pay for the road shortly," said Fioretti.
Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd) says okay.
"I don't think it's a huge issue but when you pay $43 million for a road and then you limit its use very dramatically like it has been. In these times when we are looking for revenue I think it is a good idea to put the taxis or other vehicles on there and charge them," said Waguespack.
The little known busway was built 11 years ago to avoid traffic and ferry conventioneers between downtown and McCormick place.
