Albany Park Gym That Sold Memberships Still Not Open
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Some people make excuses to avoid working out. But some Albany Park residents have a good reason: The place where they bought gym memberships is months late opening and may never be operational.
CBS 2's Kristyn Hartman spoke with one of the people who would like to get fit, but who instead is fit to be tied.
The man, who asked not to be identified, says he paid the money for a gym membership in the spring.
But Bodyworxs is not working. Signs posted at the site of the business tell you where to call for membership. One poster has a long list promising the best personal trainers, tanning and hydro massage.
The man who hoped to already be working out there said he had more than 30 emails from the guy who sold him the membership. Some talk about delays.
Though the membership buyer says he thinks the intention to open a gym was real, he's not so sure now. The city says it denied Bodyworxs a building permit on Aug. 31.
On Sept. 1, the gym founder put out a memo saying he received the permit. Another e-mail said he was working with Ald. Richard Mell's office, but a staffer there said that's not true.
Other gym members whom CBS 2 spoke with say they've been promised what they call laughable refunds.
Messages to the gym founder weren't returned.
