AirTran Flight Attendants To Picket At Midway
CHICAGO (CBS) -- AirTran flight attendants are heading to Midway International Airport Thursday morning, bringing their gripes to Chicago.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the flight attendants are planning an informational picket in the mid-morning hours at the main airport terminal.
The union for the flight attendants accuses top brass at AirTran of stalling negotiations, while executives reportedly will pocket nearly $20 million in bonuses from the airline's merger with Southwest Airlines.
Midway is one of six U.S. airports where the Association of Flight Attendants have scheduled protests. The first was on Valentine's Day in Atlanta, followed by another last week in Dallas.
Still to come are pickets in Orlando, Milwaukee and Baltimore.
Southwest Airlines anticipates closing the purchase of AirTran in the second quarter this year. Following the merger announcement, AirTran's pilots' union has already accepted a contract with AirTran.
