Air Traffic Stop Prompts Delays At O'Hare, Midway
UPDATED 03/13/12 7:05 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Flights were delayed at both O'Hare and Midway international airports Tuesday morning following a traffic stop on the runways.
CBS 2's Derrick Young reports the traffic stop in the predawn hours affected flights at both airports.
Details on the traffic stops were not immediately available. The Federal Aviation Administration classified the delays at O'Hare as being caused by "other/security" and at Midway as being caused by "other/fire alarm."
The FAA said planes were not allowed to depart from Midway until after 6 a.m.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports at O'Hare as of about 6:15 a.m., planes were just starting to move after the traffic stop. They had been staged in the "penalty box" that is used for planes that have left the gate, but are not ready to take off.
Multiple planes were taxiing to the runway at once as of 6:15 a.m.
By 7 a.m., the flight schedule was back to normal.
