Aikman: Cutler Brings Scrutiny On Himself
(WSCR) By now, it's no secret: Jay Cutler is not as media-savvy as people may like.
He's often short, abrupt and at-times arrogant when handling his media duties. So, when times get rough for the Bears and Cutler, few people will come to his rescue, according to one NFL expert.
"People just haven't been real quick to come to Jay's defense primarily because he hasn't been real quick to accommodate anybody outside of that organization," Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman told The Mully and Hanley Show. "I'm not saying he should, but I think life would be made a lot easier for him if he did."

On Sunday, Cutler was criticized by ESPN's Tom Jackson for not saying hello to various stadium workers as he walked to the Bears locker room. While that may not have warranted criticism, Aikman believes Cutler receives that type of treatment because of the reputation he's cultivated.
"Is he under appreciated? Yeah, I think he is," Aikman said. "But Jay brings a lot of that on himself. What happens is everyone is talking more about what he doesn't do or some of the things that are frustrating or annoying to people as opposed to what he is doing on the field. At the end of the day, he's paid to do one thing - that's to win football games and play at a high level. If he's able to do that, then he'll have a job in this league for a long time. I think more so now than ever (the quarterback is) really the face of the franchise in most cities more so than the head coach. There's a lot of responsibility. There's a lot that comes with that job. If you're not willing to embrace or accept or tolerate those parts of it, then life can be made pretty miserable."
