Aikman: Bears Can't Find Offensive Identity
(WSCR) With a crushing divisional loss to the Vikings on Sunday, the Bears (8-5) have now dropped four of their last five games and continue to struggle to find any type of consistency on offense.
For the second straight year, the Bears may miss the playoffs after a strong start. One NFL expert said it's the Bears inability to get going offensively that continues to plague this team.
"The Bears over the last several years have been a team that has tried to find its identity offensively," Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman told The Mully and Hanley Show. "They've changed from a passing offense initially to a running offense, because that's what it took. Then, when you go out and you sign a guy like Jay Cutler, clearly you're going to put more of an emphasis on the things that he can do.
"There are a lot of expectations certainly there in Chicago and everywhere else for offenses to be able to move the ball and score points, the Bears just really haven't done it consistently enough throughout this season."

During the team's 21-14 loss to the Vikings on Sunday, the Bears called 53 pass plays to just 13 run plays.
"Now, you're trying to figure out: Are we going to be a passing team or are we going to be a running team?" Aikman said. "With Mike Tice, it's a different philosophy than under Mike Martz. Clearly, he's a guy who, I'm sure, would like to pound people with the running game and then use the play-action to try to protect Cutler as best he can."
