Agent: Ramirez Wants To Stay, Won't Waive No-Trade Clause
CHICAGO (CBS) With the Chicago Cubs season quickly falling apart, the team may look to shed some salary and get their young players some valuable major league experience. But if that's case, don't expect Aramis Ramirez to be among the players traded.
Ramirez is in the final year of a five-year, $75 million contract, one that includes a no-trade clause. The Cubs hold an option on Ramirez in 2012 for $15 million.
According to his agent, Ramirez would more than likely choose not to waive his no-trade clause if approached by the Cubs to do so.
"He doesn't even want to take a trade," agent Paul Kinzer told the Chicago Tribune's Fred Mitchell. "He took less years and less money to stay in Chicago [in 2006], so that is definitely his first option. Aramis has a full no-trade clause, so he doesn't want to go anywhere. He's a 10-and-5 guy and I don't think he'll go anywhere. We will have to see when it comes to that."
Kinzer also represents a few other Cubs players. He represents Starlin Castro and Geovany Soto, who most likely wouldn't be moved, as well as John Grabow, who the agent says could potentially be moved.
"Hopefully they get going," Kinzer said. "We'll see what happens. I know that Castro and Geo won't be on any trade looks. But you never know with Grabow."
