Snow showers taper off late Thursday evening, followed by bitter cold in Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) — The quick snow system has moved out, and on Thursday night cold artic air is settling in.
Overnight, low temperatures will sink into the teens, accompanied by winds gusting near 25 mph. Wind chill values overnight will remain in the single digits.
Some areas could be as cold as -1 waking up early tomorrow morning.
Friday will be even colder, with high temperatures in the low to mid-20s. At least sunshine is in the forecast as we round out the workweek.
Weekend weather will be split. Saturday sunshine is in the forecast with sub-zero morning wind chills, but by Sunday, a winter system is expected to track across the Ohio River Valley.
Right now, the system's center looks to have a more southerly track, which means Chicago will be on the cold side with the potential for accumulating snow—mainly midday Sunday through early overnight.
Behind that, lake-effect snow will favor our lakeshore communities on Monday.
Temperatures through at least the middle of January are going to be cold and below-average.
