After Son Wins Calder Cup, Beverly Couple Hopes To See Hawks Clinch Stanley Cup In Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) -- If the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup at the United Center Monday night, for one Chicago couple in the stands, it will be their second championship celebration in three days.
Chuck and Tracy LoVerde are avid Blackhawks fans, and will be at Game 6 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. On Saturday night, the Beverly neighborhood couple was at the American Hockey League championship game, watching their 26-year-old son, Vince, score the game-winning goal to help the Manchester Monarchs take the Calder Cup.
Vince LoVerde is the captain of the Monarchs, and his father said he's proud for many reasons.
"Nobody talked about the goals. They talked about what a great leader he is, and what a good person he is – from the staff, to the sales people, to the reporters, to the teammates. He's my oldest of five; and all my children are … I'm very blessed," Chuck LoVerde said.
Vince LoVerde grew up in Chicago, attending St. Barnabas and St. Ignatius schools. The Monarchs are the minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, who have an option to sign him, but his father hopes Vince might skate for the Blackhawks some day at the United Center.
