Adler Planetarium To Televise Hunt For Life On Mars
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The hunt for life beyond earth continues as rover curiosity heads for a Sunday landing on Mars.
As WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports, the Adler Planetarium is hosting a free Mars landing party Sunday evening starting at 9 p.m., as curiosity heads for touchdown after midnight.
Astrophysicist Mark Subbarao says this is part of the hunt for life.
"It's unlikely to expect that we're actually going to see Martian microbes or anything like that," he said.
Rather, Dr. Subbarao says, the mission designed to provide a foundation for future Martian research, "and eventually a manned mission to Mars where we can look at that in much more detail."
Dr. Subbarao says the Adler will televise the touchdown as soon as signals return from Mars, shortly after midnight Sunday night.
