Additional Lake Shore Drive Closure For NATO Summit
CHICAGO (STMW) -- An extra portion of Lake Shore Drive on the Near North Side will be shut down Sunday evening, adding to a maze of street closures already in place for the NATO Summit.
Starting Sunday at 4 p.m., the drive will be shut down in both directions between Grand Avenue and McCormick Place, the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications announced Saturday.
Lake Shore Drive was already scheduled to be closed between Balbo Avenue and 39th Street until rush hour Monday as foreign dignitaries from around the world descend on McCormick Place for this weekend's summit.
Sunday's temporary closure will last until 11 p.m., but the closure south of Balbo will remain in effect.
As of Saturday, Columbus Drive downtown between Illinois Street and Wacker Drive will also be closed until further notice, according the OEMC website.
The closures add to a web of intermittent street closures and parking restrictions already implemented for the summit, which will mostly impact drivers in the South Loop, River North and on the Kennedy and Dan Ryan expressways.
