Actor-Director Goes Low-Budget For 'Nice Guy Johnny'
CHICAGO (WBBM) - Mayor Richard M. Daley declared Independent Film Makers Day in Chicago this week, and sang the praises of an actor-director who's premiering a low-budget movie here.

It's a far cry from the blockbuster Transformers 3, which recently wrapped up filming in Chicago. Actor-director-producer Edward Burns made his new movie Nice Guy Johnny for $25,000, shooting in ten days.
Burns says that's how much it cost to film his first movie, 1995's The Brothers McMullen.
Of course, Mayor Daley enjoys when big budget blockbusters like Transformers 3 and The Dark Knight are made in Chicago. There's a huge economic impact.
But, the mayor says he also cares about the artistic impact of smaller films, and that's why he declared Independent Film Makers Day here in Chicago.
Mayor Richard Daley says it's important to keep the independent film community going, preserving the visions of the directors and writers.
