Christopher Jacobsen, 43, of Libertyville is charged with felony theft after he wrote nearly $67,000 worth of checks to himself out of the Libertyville Boys Club. The not-for-profit group sponsors the Libertyville youth football program based at Butler Lake Park.

Investigators said Jacobsen, who is a self employed CPA, had been a volunteer club treasurer with the organization for a couple of years. He had exclusive power to collect money and pay bills related to the programs.

The board of directors became suspicious after he kept forgetting to bring the financial records to monthly meetings.

Jacobsen was freed on $50,000 bond pending a Jan. 25 appearance scheduled in Lake County Circuit Court.
