Abt Store May Come To Bolingbrook
BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (CBS) -- The Village of Bolingbrook is striking a deal for Abt Electronics to open a huge new store in the southwest suburb's Promenade Bolingbrook Shopping Center.
Abt plans to build a 150,000 square-foot store in the shopping center. The store would be expandable to 250,000 feet in the phase four area of the Promenade, which is located on the east side of Janes Avenue near Falconridge Way, according to the Bolingbrook Sun newspaper.
A Target store is also going into the Janes Avenue expansion of the shopping center, the newspaper reported.
Glenview-based Abt generates about $300 million in business a year. The Abt family founded the store in 1936, when Jewel Abt gave her husband, David, $800 to start the Abt Radio business.
Abt began as a small storefront in the Logan Square neighborhood, but now occupies more than 37 acres at 1200 Milwaukee Ave. in Glenview, with more than 1,000 employees and 60 large delivery trucks.
Abt is also one of the nation's largest appliance and electronics dealers.
